Confirmed: Trump Signs the Bill Delaying the Hemp Ban to December 11

Update to our September 2 post: the open question in that story — whether President Trump would sign the delay — is now resolved. He signed it the same day. December 11, 2026 is now the official, locked-in effective date for the new federal hemp definition. Here’s what actually changed, and what still hasn’t.

What happened

On September 2, 2026, President Trump signed H.R. 6500, the Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, 2027, funding the government through December 11 and, with it, delaying the new federal hemp definition from its original November 12 effective date to that same December 11 deadline. The House had passed the bill 370-48 that morning; the Senate had already passed identical language on August 8. As of this signing, the delay is law, not just a bill awaiting a signature.

What this does — and doesn’t — change

The underlying redefinition — Section 781’s 0.4mg-total-THC-per-container cap, enacted back in November 2025 — hasn’t changed at all. What changed is purely the clock: that redefinition now takes effect December 11, 2026 instead of November 12. Nothing about buying, shipping, or stocking San Buzi changes today. The countdown just got about a month longer, and it’s no longer a “will Congress act” question — it’s now a fixed date on the calendar, roughly 98 days out from today.

The bill actually worth watching

The real fix — the one that would replace a ban with an actual regulatory framework — is still the Beverage Regulatory Parity Act (H.R. 10079), introduced August 10 by Reps. Beth Van Duyne (R-TX) and Greg Landsman (D-OH). It’s sat in committee since introduction with no floor vote scheduled. Worth knowing if you’re following this closely: as written, it would regulate hemp beverages like alcohol — 21-and-over nationwide, a federal excise tax — but it would also cap servings at 5mg of total intoxicating THC, half of San Buzi’s current 10mg. If this specific bill becomes the eventual fix, it’s a real dose, not just a ban to avoid — something we’ll be watching as closely as the deadline itself.

Where things stand now

• The 0.4mg definition: enacted, not yet in effect, now delayed to December 11, 2026 — signed into law.
• The Beverage Regulatory Parity Act: introduced, in committee, no floor vote yet. Would cap servings at 5mg if passed as written.
• San Buzi: unchanged today. We’ll keep updating this as it develops.
